Dress Code

Carver 9th Grade Academy Dress Code

It is the policy of Dothan City Schools that good grooming and personal appearance are essential, if not critical, elements in the teaching and learning process. Students are expected to dress in a manner that ensures health, safety, and a positive learning environment. All students are expected to dress in a manner that ensures health, safety, and a positive learning environment. All students must follow the dress code. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action.

Bottoms

  • Wear bottoms at the natural waist level.
  • No sagging, lowriders, excessively tight, baggy, or long pants.
  • Leggings are not pants. Must be worn with appropriate clothing.
  • Shots, skirts, dresses must be mid-thigh length.
  • Jeans, pants, skirts with holes/cuts/slits are allowed if skin is not showing higher than mid-thigh.
  • Pajama pants are NOT allowed.
  • Splits may not exceed mid-thigh
Dress code guide showing acceptable and unacceptable student attire. Acceptable examples include polo shirts, khaki pants or skirts, and a hoodie with pants. Unacceptable examples include sagging pants, shorts that are too short, jeans with holes above the mid-thigh, and pajama pants.

Tops

  • Tops must not reveal the body in an inappropriate manner. No midriff, spaghetti straps, off-the-shoulder, low-cut, backless, sheer, or see-through tops.
  • Undergarments (bra, etc.) must be worn properly and not visible.
  • No clothing with references to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, profanity, or anything offensive.
  • No clothing or accessories that identify gangs or unlawful organizations.

Unacceptable examples include tops with spaghetti straps, exposed midriffs, off-the-shoulder tops, and shirts featuring inappropriate graphics.

Accessories

  • No jewelry or accessories that distract or pose a safety risk (large, noisy jewelry, excessive fingernails, etc.)
  • No decorative dental appliances or contact lenses (unless prescribed by a physician).
  • No caps, hats, bandanas, sunglasses (unless prescribed), or other headwear. Hoods may not be worn on the head.
  • No combs, hair picks, curlers, hair socks, or similar items.
  • No heavy metal chains, spiked items, or metal-studded accessories.
  • Belts must be fastened and worn in belt loops with no excess hanging.

Shoes

  • Wear appropriate shoes at all times.
  • No boots with chains, steel toes, or metal reinforcement.
  • No bedroom shoes, house slippers, or shoes with wheels.

Dress Code Consequences (Secondary)

  • 1st Offense: Call parent/change clothes; if clothes can't be changed, the student will go to ISS 1 Day
  • 2nd Offense: Call parent/change clothes; if clothes can't be changed, the student will go to ISS 2 Days
  • 3rd Offense: Call parent/change clothes; 2 days OSS
  • 4th Offense: Refer to Policy 299
